VTW invests EUR 1 Million
New YASDA, Automation & CT

Just a few months after the successful commissioning of two automated systems for a total of three milling and turning centers, we are once again sending a strong signal of innovation and future-proofing: VTW is investing approximately one million euros in a state-of-the-art YASDA 5-axis milling machine complete with automation, as well as in a new computed tomography scanner.

With the new YASDA milling machine and its automation system, we are specifically expanding our capacities in an existing bottleneck technology. The investment will enable continuous 24/7 operation in the future, thereby sustainably increasing both efficiency and competitiveness. The new YASDA YBM Vi40 impresses with longer travel ranges and significantly higher spindle power. In addition, the machine is equipped with a coolant-lubricant emulsion through the spindle and tool (IKZ), which enables reliable machining of complex components.

“Thanks to these features, the YASDA YBM Vi40 fits perfectly into our existing machine park. It expands our machining capabilities, particularly for larger components, where we had previously reached our limits due to travel constraints,” summarizes Production Manager Andreas Pichler.

To automate workpiece handling, the machine was equipped with an EROWA ERC80 automation system. This automation system represents the best technical and economic solution for the automatic loading and unloading of workpieces using EROWA clamping systems—which are already in use on other production machines. The ERC80 was configured with a total of 16 pallet stations. Another key advantage of the EROWA ERC80 is its compact design, which enables a space-saving and straightforward connection to the milling machine. Furthermore, the system is designed to accommodate the connection of an additional milling machine in the future, offering high flexibility and expansion potential for production operations.

Furthermore, VTW is now also the proud owner of a computed tomography (CT) scanner. With the new system, plastic injection-molded parts can be analyzed and measured with even greater precision. The ZEISS METROTOM 6 scout CT system enables the digitization of complex plastic components and assemblies, including their internal geometries, at the highest level of detail. The result is a complete 3D image that enables us to perform fully non-destructive testing of our plastic parts. The CT system allows us to perform measurements, form and position analyses, and even target-actual comparisons, and is used for initial sample testing, mold corrections, analysis of internal structures, wall thickness, material defects, and inclusions.

“The step to CT measurement technology opens up new opportunities for us at this location to analyze our products even more efficiently and accurately, and boosts our competitiveness in our target markets,” says Mathias Fröhlich, Head of Quality, with pride.

We are currently working intensively on the final preparations for commissioning the new systems. At the same time, employees are receiving comprehensive training to ensure they can make the most of the new technologies’ potential.

Managing Director Manfred Schinko emphasizes: “Investments in innovative technologies, smart systems, and additional training for our skilled workforce have been key to our company’s success since VTW was founded about five years ago. We will continue this approach in the future to offer our employees exciting career opportunities and provide our customers with optimal products and solutions.”

With these investments, VTW once again underscores its commitment to remaining at the forefront of technology and offering its customers the highest quality and innovative solutions.
